A major commitment of the association at the moment is to construct an Alumni House at an approximate cost of Rs.4 crore (US $1m) for which the university has allocated a 3-acre plot of land on the campus. Set in spacious lawns, the house will serve as a community centre and meeting place for the alumni, and shall provide facilities for holding cultural and intellectual functions. The foundation stone of the house was laid by the then Prime Minister of India, Shri Inder Kumar Gujral, himself a distinguished alumnus of the university, in March 1998. The construction work is about to be taken in hand soon.
Besides the office of the association, the house shall have a couple of seminar/conference/committee rooms, and a cafeteria with dining hall and 30 well-appointed residential suites. With the contribution of alumni four deluxe suites and a lounge have already been constructed. Their furnishing will also be completed shortly. Donations are solicited from donors for construction of six more deluxe suites @US $40,000 or equivalent who wish to have the suite named after them and designed/furnished according to their wishes.
Donations are tax exempt under Section 80-G of the Income Tax Act, 1961 of Government of India.
